Allied Health in Sydney LHD comprises the professions of physiotherapy, social work, podiatry, psychology, speech pathology, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, orthoptics, orthotics.
Allied Health aims to provide services which respond to client needs and to improve the patient's journey through the healthcare system. This is achieved by working in partnership with clients and their families to optimise physical and psychosocial function and to develop healthy life skills.

Community Health offers a range of community-based prevention, early intervention, assessment, acute/post-acute treatment, health maintenance and continuing care services designed to improve or maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
These services include: community nursing services; services for children and families including - nursing, medical, counselling, speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, early childhood nutrition, hearing and vision; sexual assault counselling; HIV and sexual health clinical services and education programs; youth health nursing, medical, counselling and education programs; multicultural health education programs.
We have major centres at Marrickville, Croydon, Redfern, Canterbury and Camperdown and a range of smaller Early Childhood Health Clinics across the inner-west.

Drug and alcohol dependence is a chronic and relapsing condition and people with drug and alcohol problems are significant users of the health care system.
Drug Health Services provides a range of treatments and interventions at hospitals and health centres to address the needs of these patients.
Services include Withdrawal Management, Stabilisation, Opioid Treatment, Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment program (MERIT) Harm Minimisation, including Needle Syringe Program, Counselling, Perinatal and Family Drug Health Services and Hospital Consultation and Liaison.
The majority of service interventions are related to treatment for heroin dependence. Drug Health Services has Opioid Treatment Clinics at Canterbury and Royal Prince Alfred hospitals with capacity for 500 patients. The majority of patients present daily for pharmacotherapy dosing.

The Mental Health Service provides integrated inpatient and community mental health clinical services through a clinical stream across the Sydney Local Health District. Inpatient services are provided at Concord, Royal Prince Alfred and Thomas Walker hospitals. The community mental health services are provided at Redfern, Camperdown, Marrickville, Canterbury and Croydon.
Specialised services that operate across the District are provided in targeted areas that include early intervention, rehabilitation, older people, co-morbidity, adolescent, assertive outreach, eating disorders, consultation/liaison, Aboriginal, carer and consumer support, health promotion and multicultural services.
Partnerships are maintained with NGOs including Aftercare, Richmond Fellowship and New Horizons for supported accommodation, Carer Assist for carer support and education, Central Sydney GP Network for shared care and Schizophrenia Fellowship for respite and the Brain and Mind Research Institute for headspace and early intervention.

Oral Health Services protects, promotes, maintains and improves the oral health of people within the Sydney and South Western Sydney Local Health Districts.
We provide emergency and routine dental services to eligible patients at Sydney Dental Hospital and 14 community-based oral health clinics located across the districts.
Most of our clinics are polyclinics with teams of dentists, dental/oral health therapists and other dental auxiliaries. We also provide valuable clinical practice experience to students undertaking dental education and training.
Sydney Dental Hospital is a tertiary referral and major teaching facility, with relationships with Sydney University, Newcastle University and TAFE for the training of dentists, dental specialists, oral health therapists, dental hygienists and dental prosthetists.
At the hospital we provide specialist treatment for patients referred statewide for Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Oral Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Oral Pathology, Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery and Implantology services.
Some of our areas of specialisation are:
- The Special Care Dentistry Unit, providing care to those with special needs including the elderly and those with chronic mental health conditions.
- The Midwifery Initiated Oral Health project, a collaboration between Oral Health Services and the Centre for Applied Nursing Research, providing a pathway for midwives to assess the oral health of pregnant women and make referrals.
- The Preventative and Interceptive Orthodontic Research (PrIOR) project, led by the Department of Orthodontics, training dentists to assess and identify patients who may require preventive and interceptive orthodontic treatment.
- Acting as a hub for the Aboriginal Oral Health Hub and Spoke Program, part of the Commonwealth-funded Closing the Gap initiative.

Population Health delivers innovative and evidence-based programs aimed at improving the health of local people, reducing inequalities and addressing service gaps.
Population Health incorporates the Health Promotion Service; the Public Health Unit; the HIV/AIDS and Related Programs Unit; the Multicultural HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C Service; the Health Equity Research and Development Unit (HERDU); the Public Health Observatory and the Population Health General Manager's Unit.
